UC Berkeley Center for Law & Technology (BCLT): “A Strategic Deep Dive into the UPC and Its Global Impact”
The Unified Patent Court (UPC) has transformed how patents are enforced across Europe—bringing new opportunities, risks, and strategies for innovators worldwide. Two years since its launch, the UPC is now shaping global patent litigation, offering faster timelines, broader jurisdiction, and more efficient enforcement for European and multinational rights.
Our colleagues Yasmine Azzaoui, Carl-Alexander Dinges, and Dr. Alexander Harguth will participate in the “UC Berkeley Center for Law & Technology (BCLT): A Strategic Deep Dive into the UPC and Its Global Impact” on November 20, 2025, at UCDC, as Bonabry joins as co-sponsor.
10 – 10.45 AM
Carl-Alexander Dinges, Yasmine Azzaoui, Marc Lauzeral (Schertenleib) and Steve Carlson (Robins Kaplan LLP) will discuss the question ‘Update and Statistics on the UPC: Who is using it and what is happening?’ This gobal panel will guide through the meaningful trends and decisions regarding the UPC.
2 – 2.45 PM
Carl-Alexander Dinges will be part of the moderation team for the breakout session and reporting on ‘What Does the UPC Mean for the Future of US Patents and Patent Litigation?’ He will drive small-group discussions to explore what issues are troubling attorneys and how they are dealing with common problems.
3.45 – 4.30 PM
Yasmine Azzaoui, Farheena Rasheed (USPTO) and Alexander Harguth will be dealing with the topic ‘Understanding invalidity challenges in different forums: EPO, UPC, and the PTAB’. This session focuses on global options for challenging the validity of patents. These processes are similar in concept but not so similar in procedures.
4.45 – 5.15 PM
Alexander Harguth, Siddharth Kusumakar and Marc Lauzeral will be speakers on ‘UPC Strategies: From Venue Selection to Injunctions’. This session will explore the most effective litigation strategies.
